Who We Are and What We Do

Whether you are wanting to maintain your fitness levels throughout pregnancy, know what the guidelines are for exercise during pregnancy and after birth of your baby, get back into shape safely after your baby has arrived and restore your core muscles or you want to exercise or follow a weight loss programme later into motherhood, then Bump and Beyond is for you.

We are experts in the field of pre- and post-natal exercise and nutrition and have over 18 years’ experience of prescribing exercise to women and many groups.


Our Aims

We aim to provide safe, effective, structured, fun and functional exercise programmes to all mums-to-be and mums. We recognise that women who are able to continue to exercise and eat healthily whilst they are pregnant and postnatally gain less weight, feel better and have more energy.  Exercise can also help in having shorter labours, ease their post-partum recovery and help their bodies feel stronger and fitter to meets the demands of being a mummy.

Studies have shown that not only does exercise benefit the mother, but also your precious baby inside.

Welcome to Bump and Beyond.

My name is Polly Simpkins and I am founder of Bump and Beyond. I am a mummy of two and I have always enjoyed taking part in exercise since a young age from playing tennis, to using the gym.  I love setting myself challenges such as running the London and New York Marathons and more recently generally keeping myself fit by running and taking part in regular exercise.

When I became pregnant for the first time with my daughter who is now aged 4, I was very unsure about what exercises I should and shouldn’t do, I found there was conflicting advice and guidance around and very little on offer in terms of exercise classes for pregnant ladies and new mummy’s. I therefore found that I started to do less exercise and was very cautious about what I did.

With my following pregnancy I was determined to find the correct exercises to suit me during and after having my son.

The whole experience of being pregnant and having babies is magical, but I learnt that it’s so important to look after your body and know the correct guidelines and recommendations for exercising.

I wanted to share my experience and knowledge that I learnt with other mums to be and new mummies, so I have studied for further qualifications and attended various courses to qualify me as a Pre- and Postnatal Exercise Instructor and have set up Bump and Beyond as a result.


My Background

I have worked for the last eighteen years in Sports development and developing health initiatives and have worked with high risk cardiac patients and individuals with varying health conditions and chronic illnesses in prescribing them exercise to improve their health and wellbeing. I’m passionate about exercise and physical activity and want to pass on all it’s benefits to those who attend Bump and Beyond.

My aim is to provide specialist exercise and nutritional programmes to Pregnant women and mums that are purposeful, safe, effective, structured and fun which will meet the needs of women in their various stages of motherhood, where I can offer advice and guidance in a relaxed and fun atmosphere.

I went to sessions with Polly and Bump and Beyond for 9 months following the birth of my son. I started off attending the post natal exercise classes. Being able to take my son to the class made it much easier for me to go and the exercises started gently and built up slowly. I then went on to do personal training sessions with Polly. These were focused on what I wanted to achieve and each week Polly would devise an individualised programme for me. The sessions helped get me become strong again and were a lot of fun. Polly also advised me on nutrition to help “rebuild a mum”. Polly was so supportive through-out and she is a great personal trainer.
I enjoyed all sessions run by Polly throughout my pregnancy and after my baby had arrived. It was nice getting out of the house and keeping active. It also meant I had more energy the next day, I think it helped working out and keeping my energy levels high. Exercising with Polly whilst Pregnant helped make me feel less tired and lethargic in myself. It also made me feel healthy and better in myself working out. It also helped get rid of the stress of the day carrying a big bump and looking after an active nine year old!
I definitely felt my pelvic floor strengthening and keeping active made me feel healthy. I think it helped with the recovery after I had my baby as well, also it’s helped me get back into fitness post pregnancy.
Fun and relaxed sessions and I felt comfortable to be able to ask Polly for advice with exercises and problems related to pregnancy. Well structured sessions which helped keep me fit and motivated throughout pregnancy. I also felt it helped with labour and recovery.
